About our
Congregation (UUFDC)
The
Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA) was formed in
1961 through the consolidation of the Universalist Church of America
and the American Unitarian Association. Today the UUA is a community of
more than 1000 congregations that support each other and bring to the
world a vision of religious freedom, tolerance and social justice.
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC) has over
90 members and many friends. We are a part of the Central Midwest District of the
Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), home to 12,000 Unitarian
Universalists (UU) in more than 70 societies and the Church of the
Larger Fellowship.
Our Fellowship was begun in 1997 by 37 charter members. In June of
2000, we dedicated our new building with UUFDC founding member the Rev.
Robert C. Clarke and the Rev. John Buehrens, then President of the UUA,
presiding.
|
Among our
members are two Unitarian Universalist ministers. The Rev. Robert C. Clarke has retired from the ministry and
serves in an advisory capacity. The Rev. Cynthia B. Johnson, although also retired, speaks six
to eight times a year. Rev. Johnson will officiate at marriages at the
Fellowship or elsewhere in Door County.
Rev.
Johnson teaches classes on UU history and principles for new and
potential members. She can be reached at 920-839-9298 or cbjohnson@itol.com Rev. Clarke may be contacted
through the Fellowship at 920-854-7559.
Rabbi Jay Brickman,
the Rev. Phillips Sweet,
and the Rev. Joan Shiels are frequent speaker, as was the
late Erik
Eriksson,
noted music critic, writer and a member of the Fellowship.

|
| Mezzo-soprano and member Cynthia Stiehl, sings frequently for services. A
variety of other local musicians and visiting performers provide
special music for many Sunday services. |
 |
|
The
Fellowship is used for a variety of purposes for the benefit of our
members and for the larger community. These include adult education,
concerts, recitals, classic film screenings, poetry readings, potlucks,
women's luncheons and holiday parties.
