WHY DOES A UNITARIAN GO TO CHURCH?
It is said that the mainstream churchgoer attends Sunday morning services to seek the presence of God in word and song. Unitarians have words and songs but usually come seeking something other than the presence of God. What are they looking for? And what do they find? A reflection.
The Reverend Joan Shiels has a sign on her refrigerator that is a quote from Henry David Thoreau. It says, “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” She’s that kind of minister. Maybe that’s why we’ve been inviting her to speak at this fellowship for the last six years.
