GRATITUDE: THE MOST NECESSARY OF VIRTUES

Gratitude is the most basic of all the values we cherish. Everything that is good stems from and flows into gratitude. But something stops us from finding the wonder in life. Bad training (put your rubbers on, don’t forget your mittens, don’t talk to strangers, be careful), fear will do it, affluence and busyness contribute. Peter Fleck wrote: “Sermonizers assume that the Pilgrims were thankful for having survived. It seems to me that they were able to survive because they were thankful”. A reflection.

Rev. Sweet is a popular and frequent speaker at UUFDC. He served as minister for Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay and two rural churches in western Minnesota.
