Please contact her at winzenzk@msn.com or 920-823-2189 if you plan to attend. Written in 2005, The Secret River is historical fiction centered on William Thornhill, a petty criminal who in 1806 is sentenced in England and banished to Australia with his family where he tries to stake their claim to a patch of ground along the Hawkesbury River. The story explores what happened when Europeans colonized land already inhabited by Aboriginal people and the various interactions that ranged from brutal depravity and slaughter, to acceptance, compassion, and even co-habitation.
