HAITI: ECOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT BEFORE AND AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE

Haiti, once the richest colony in the Western Hemisphere, has been decimated by institutional racism and ecological degradation.  Hear how one small Wisconsin based non-profit is making an impact in rural Haiti to protect health and repair the environment.

Gigi Pomerantz is the founder of Youthaiti, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to supporting and encouraging youth-led ecological development in sanitation, hygiene and agriculture in rural Haiti.  A Nurse Practitioner in Milwaukee, Gigi first travelled to Haiti in 2006 on a medical mission.  Not satisfied to give medications to treat preventable diseases, she looked for the root causes of the high rate of childhood mortality.  From this, Youthaiti was born. A mother of 2 adult daughters, Gigi brings a deep belief in our responsibility to repair the world, tikkun olam, to all the work that she does.
