August 14 – Doc Heide

Fred Heide

RIFFING WITH THE ROCK STAR OF RELIGION

Dubbed “the Rock Star of Religion” by the San Francisco Chronicle on his 90th birthday, Huston Smith is one of the most revered religious scholars of our generation.  A professor at MIT, Syracuse and UC-Berkeley, his book The World’s Religions has sold over 2 ½ million copies.  Bill Moyers created a 5-part PBS series based on Smith, who has written 13 other books and befriended the Dalai Lama, Aldous Huxley, Pete Seeger, Timothy Leary, and many others.  In this talk, Doc will share a few anecdotes and insights from his own burgeoning friendship with Dr. Smith.

Fred “Doc” Heide, Associate Professor at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, is best known locally as co-founder of American Folklore Theatre and co-author of musicals such as Guys & Does and Packer Fans from Outer Space.
