Conversation Partners

By Karen Cruz

Now that the busy summer season is over, we hope that our Conversation Partners program, begun last year, will begin to grow.  The November training session for English-speaking partners will be held on November 11, from 10 AM to 12 noon at UUFDC.  Jami Hanreddy is sharing her expertise gained over a career as speech therapist, English Language Learning teacher, and teacher trainer.  The sessions are invaluable, especially for those without experience in teaching, and they are enjoyable.

We will need some new tutors this season.  There are many residents in our county who would love to have a partner to help them learn our language and be a friend to them in this new environment.  Many cannot attend regular classes, but welcome the opportunity to meet with someone at a library, the YMCA, at the fellowship, or in homes.  If you know of anyone who might benefit from this opportunity, please let Meg Vermillion or Jami Hanreddy know.

Conversation Partnering is a wonderful experience for the tutors as well as the students, enriching our lives as we learn of other cultures and make new friends.  Please consider joining us at the Nov. 11 session, even if you haven’t been a part of the program before.  If you plan to attend, please email Jami Hanreddy at hanreddy@uwm.edu or Meg Vermillion at berryfun@dcwis.com.
