Phil Hansotia returns to the Dickinson Poetry Series July 11 to read a variety of his works.

Phil is a retired physician who lived in Marshfield for 35 years before settling in Ellison Bay eight years ago. He has been a member of the Wallace group of poets and has been involved with setting up the Poetry Trail at Newport State Park with Nancy Rafal and Sharon Auberle. He was born in India and received his early education there. Themes of experience in two cultures and memories of life in both places lace his work. Travel poems, experience with disaster work with Red Cross, and vignettes of life and places of Door County add to his collection. Phil says, “The poetry community in Door County is rich and stimulating and adds greatly to the pleasure of life on the peninsula.”

An open mic, offering an opportunity for other poets to share their work, will also be offered.

The Dickinson Poetry Series is sponsored by the UU Fellowship of Door County and provides an opportunity for both experienced and aspiring poets to read their works. It is held on the second Wednesday each month beginning at 7 pm. The public is invited to this free event that celebrates the poets of our area. A reception follows the readings. The UU Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy. 42, Ephraim. For more information, phone (920) 854-7559.
