The Heart of a Buffalo: A Musical Drama
The Heart of a Buffalo is a 50 minute musical drama with Dennis Hawk playing the character of Black Elk, a 19th century Lakota Medicine Man who relates his childhood experience hunting buffalo in Canada in the days just after the death of chief Crazy Horse. This powerful and moving, historical drama is interlaced with both traditional and original music by Dennis (Native American Drum, chanting, flute, guitar and vocals).
Dennis Hawk
Dennis Hawk, or Animikii Gekek (Thunder Hawk), is a mixed blood Native American, Cherokee and Mesquaki, who found music to be a healer of the soul, bringing peace to the mind and body. Best known as an accomplished Native American Flute player and flute maker, Dennis is also a guitarist, keyboard musician and composer. A teacher of Native American spirituality, a sweat lodge leader and a pipe carrier, Dennis found that he could weave Native American cultural and historic stories within the context of instrumental music.
