Poet Laureate Marilyn Taylor is October’s Dickinson Poet

Marilyn L. Taylor will read new and selected poems at the Emily Dickinson Poetry Series on October 10, 2012 at 7 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County.  A complementary reception will follow the reading and open mic session.

Ms Taylor is the 2009 and 2010 Poet Laureate of the state of Wisconsin and 2004 and 2005 of the city of Milwaukee.  She taught poetry and poetics for fifteen years at UWM. She has facilitated poetry workshops, readings and presentations throughout the state and at many venues across the country from Connecticut to California and has recently been appointed to the advisory board of the Low-Residency MFA Program at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.

Marilyn is the author of six collections of poetry, the most recent of which, Going Wrong, was published by Parallel Press in 2009. Her poems and essays have also appeared in many anthologies and journals including The American Scholar, Poetry, Measure, Able Muse, THINK Journal, and Ted Kooser’s “American Life in Poetry” column. Marilyn has been awarded first place in contests sponsored by The Atlanta Review, Dogwood, Passager, The Ledge, and the GSU Review poetry journals. She is currently a Contributing Editor for THE WRITER magazine, where her articles on craft appear bi-monthly.
