Estella Lauter will be the featured reader for the Dickinson Poetry Series on Wednesday, January 9 at 7 pm. An open mic follows the featured reading.
Since her retirement from teaching in the UW System, Estella has published two chapbooks with Finishing Line Press in Georgetown, KY. Her poems have appeared in the Peninsula Pulse, Free Verse, Verse Wisconsin and Wisconsin People and Ideas, and several anthologies, including The Nature of Door. They have won awards from the Pulse, Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets, Wisconsin Regional Writers Association and the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. As a member of the Wallace group and Word Women–two of Door County’s ongoing poetry workshops–she has participated in recent exhibits on the Newport Poetry Trail, at The Meadows and at Brew Coffee House. Some of her latest work may be seen online at www.versewisconsin.org in Issue 110, “It’s Political.” She lives with her husband on 31 acres of woodland between Fish Creek and Ephraim and believes in poetry “because it still leaps out of the water of syllables into fresh air to change its course and ours.”
