CONNECTIONS: THE BEAUTY AND COMMONALITY OF HUMANITY
A Portrait Photography Exhibit by Dennis M. Connolly
Born in Chicago and raised in Kenosha, Dennis Connolly joined the US Air Force, serving in England, where his childhood explorations in photography were encouraged by winning a Kodak European contest. After establishing his career in dental care, he discovered the importance of photography while traveling with health care teams to Central America, and subsequently with photography groups to many remote areas. The beauty and complex simplicity of village people there drew him to make portraits and to share those intense images with others.
Encouraged by his wife, Bonnie, he entered the Miller Art Museum’s Mixed Media Juried exhibition in 2001 and received the “Juror’s Choice” award. Further explorations occurred through workshops with photographers Dan Anderson, Doug Beasley and Suzanne Rose.
Although Dennis continues to grow as a photographer, he still prefers portraits and architectural or abstract subject matter. His work has appeared in group shows at the Hardy Gallery and the Miller Art Museum, and in solo shows at the Meadows Gallery and Southport Art Gallery. You may have seen one of his photos on a wine bottle label at Stone’s Throw Winery.
In light of national political tension regarding immigration that has revealed insensitivity to the plight of our fellow man, this show presents photos of people, whose beauty and dignity prevail regardless of their life circumstances. Dennis hopes that his joy in connecting personally with his subjects will lead to a deeper appreciation of these qualities in the minds and hearts of viewers.
