Baileys Harbor Poet Headlines Dickinson Series
Ann Heyse, author of the recently published children’s book Good Morning, Door County, is the featured reader at the Dickinson Poetry Series on November 9 at 7 pm.
Heyse has loved Door County for her entire life. In her childhood, she spent summers here visiting grandparents. She came back each year with husband and children until, in 2015, she and her husband moved here and became fulltime residents of Baileys Harbor.
Always a person who loved words, Heyse spent much of her life as an English teacher. From teaching young kids to read to helping college students construct good paragraphs, her goal was always to help her students appreciate the beauty of language and the power of words. Since her move to Door County she has joined the board of Write On, Door County, a young, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering writing. She has volunteered her time to teach classes on Memoir Writing for seniors and Creative Writing for teens.
Heyse’s free verse poetry is reflective and personal, yet she ties those personal experiences into themes that resonate universally. Many of the people and places that have affected her appear in her poems. In addition, her poems often call attention to those in difficulty or need.
Heyse’s poems appear in Soundings, the 2017 Wisconsin Poets Calendar, and Creative Wisconsin. She blogs at https://annotations2.wordpress.com , which features her photography and essays.
