Peter SherrillOn Wednesday, November 11, at 7 pm, the Dickinson Poetry Series welcomes Green Bay poet Peter Sherrill.

Peter was an English major long before Garrison Keillor founded the “Professional Organization of English Majors,” generally known by its acronym “POEM.” He also was ahead of Keillor in his discovery that the terms “Professional” and “English Major” are usually contradictory.

To that end, Peter has earned his keep as a physician, wandering from family practice through sports medicine and emergency medicine before settling into a career in occupational and preventive medicine. He works for Aurora Medical Group in Green Bay.

He’s been writing through it all. He has poems, reviews, articles, essays and even a chapter in a medical text to his credit. He has no chapbooks to his credit, since he hasn’t figured out yet what he’d want to say in a work of that length.

He’s past-president of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets.  He’s won their Muse Prize for Excellence in Poetry, as well as two Jade Rings in poetry from the Wisconsin Regional Writers’ Association.

Peter is not a veteran, but he wants to honor all our veterans on this Veterans’ Day with gratitude for their sacrifices. This reading is dedicated to veterans everywhere.
