The featured poet for October is the current Poet Laureate of Wisconsin, Kim Blaeser, who is a Professor of Creative Writing and American Indian Literature at UW Milwaukee. She has published three poetry collections and her poems have been translated into several languages. Her poems often reflect her Anishinaabe heritage and her high regard for the natural world. Her most recent work is based on native pictographs. Her poems are often accessible and profound as well as thoughtful and humorous. She gave a lively reading at the 65th Anniversary Conference of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets this past June, and we are looking forward to an exciting evening at UUFDC. She will bring books to sell and sign. Her reading will be followed by an open mic and a reception as usual. All poets and those who love to hear poetry read aloud are welcome.
