Student Poets from Gibraltar High School will take the Dickinson Poetry Series stage at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Wednesday, February 12th at 7 pm.

In the first year of the Emily Dickinson Poetry Series, 2009-2010, a Gibraltar student was a featured reader. The reading was such a success that we felt compelled to encourage more student readers. We established one reading each year just for students and the successes have continued. The audiences have been moved by the depth and poignancy of the student poems. Last year the poetry was so strong we collected it to create a limited edition booklet, and also invited two students to be featured readers in the series this year.

Linda Fey, an English teacher at Gibraltar, organizes the reading of the poetry. This year, the eleventh in the series, many students have already asked to read: Matthew Austgen, Kimberly Church, Mara Packard, Taylor Stai, Cassidy Stark, Bella Vartanian, Nadeen Wassel, Nicole Wassel, and Breighly Wehling.

Several of these students have read previously in the series and the new readers will insure that the tradition will continue. So, mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 12 at UUFDC to join in an inspiring evening. The reading begins at 7 pm. A post-reading reception provides an opportunity to discuss the poetry.

About Dickinson Poetry Series: On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a renowned local or regional poet followed by an open mic, providing an opportunity for others to read their poetry. A reception follows affording an opportunity to meet the poets. The Series is named for Emily Dickinson, a prolific poet and philosophically in tune with Unitarian beliefs. The public is welcome and there is no charge. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy. 42 in north Ephraim. For more information call (920) 854-7559.
