The Dickinson Poetry Series reading on Wednesday, April 13, celebrates several events. First, it is National Poetry Month, when the annual Emily Dickinson Poetry Series always begins a new season. Second, it represents the beginning of the eighth year of the Dickinson Poetry Series. And finally, it recognizes the 20th Anniversary of the founding of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Door County. Hanne Gault, as the senior poet of UUFDC is a most appropriate featured reader.
Gault moved to Door County in 1997 after spending many summers here. Gault has been writing poetry for many years. It is a kind of meditation for her, where she can lose herself and forget about other things. “I have a similar relationship to music,” she explains. Gault is drawn to the quirky side of things: “I think there is a comic and ironic aspect to life. I try to use that, and take it as close to the edge as I can without going over, so as not to offend anyone.”
Nominated for a Pushcart Prize, Gault has published one chapbook; getting published is not a focus. However, she does enjoy sharing her poetry and getting feedback from both her poet friends and audience members.
