Margaret Hasse began writing poems when she was a child, and went on to study literature at Stanford University and University of Minnesota. Hasse is the author of four published collections of poetry, including Milk and Tides, winner of the poetry prize from Minnesota Independent Publishing Association. Her fifth book, Between Us, is due out in October 2016. She’s a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Minnesota State Arts Board, and McKnight Foundation. This summer, she’ll be in residence for the second time at Write On Door County.
As poet Ethna McKiernan writes about Hasse’s work: “Margaret Hasse’s unique voice (or maybe it’s vision or sensibility or interpretation of the world) has a generosity to it, an expansiveness of gaze that doesn’t skip over sorrow and the rawness of the world, but works to integrate it and retain balance and joy. I love the poems in her new book about bonds––with family, with friends, with the natural world. Margaret Hasse’s poems insist that it’s never too late to love and go forward toward a place ‘where prayers and gratitude gather.’”
Don’t miss this installment of UUFDC’s Dickinson Poetry Series on Wednesday, July 13 at 7 pm.
