KidsGive is a scholarship program for children in Sierra Leone sponsored by Lawrence University (LU). Its mission is to educate students in the US about African life and cultures and promote informed giving while providing children in Sierra Leone with the opportunity to learn and become the next great leaders of Sierra Leone. It was founded in 2006 by LU Professor of Government Claudena Skran. Initially, it was able to support 13 students in one school. Today, it supports over 300 students in three schools with tuition, books, other learning materials, exam fees, and activities equipment. Professor Skran will be the UUFDC speaker on February 21.
Fifty dollars allows one student to attend school for a year; $25 funds a semester; and $10 provides the necessary school uniforms. Many families cannot afford these amounts. Observations confirm that these children desperately want to learn. They are committed to improving themselves and their country. The ebola crisis was particularly severe in Sierra Leone and many children were orphaned. Thus, contributions at this time are especially needed and welcomed.
Often our collections go to large organizations, where in spite of favorable reviews, we know little about the exact use of our contributions. Here is an opportunity to know the effect of our work. Please give generously.
