On Sunday, February 21 at 3 pm, Chuck and Estella Lauter will present a talk they prepared for retired colleagues from Lawrence University. Although they are certainly not experts on Tanzania, where they went on safari with Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) in November 2014, they were sufficiently enthusiastic about the trip and the country to provoke their colleagues’ curiosity and to continue their research long after they returned.
They will begin with a short DVD of the animals and landscape made by two talented photographers on their trip, and follow with a presentation in two voices about the people, ideas and history they encountered in the many hours they spent with three African guides over 17 days. Tanzania’s history differs from that of most other African countries, and the Lauters’ experience differs greatly from the accounts we see on our news.
They welcome both those who have no experience with Tanzania or safaris, as well as those who have made similar journeys. There will be plenty of time for discussion. All are welcome. A reception with refreshments will follow the presentation.
As part of the celebration of UUFDC’s 20th year, the 20th Anniversary Committee has planned at least one event each month. The purpose is to bring members and friends together to remind us why UUFDC is an important part of our lives. Many times this year the wider community will also be invited to join us in thanks for their continued support.
