The Movies That Matter series will feature Food For Change: The Story Of Cooperation America (2013, 120 min.), on Tuesday, March 19 at 4:30 pm at the Fellowship. A group discussion will follow the movie.

For generations food co-ops have been a part of the American economy, providing people with a healthy, community-based food source. Food For Change is a three-part documentary that delves into the history and present state of food co-ops, and how co-ops can enact progressive changes.

The film starts with the Great Depression, explaining how and why food co-ops flourished during a time of great economic decline. Part two takes a look at the resurgence of co-ops in the 1960s and the struggles faced competing against the mass producing food companies and grocers. The documentary closes with a look at today’s current co-ops, focusing on those based in the Twin Cities.

About the Movies that Matter Series: The film is part of the UUFDC’s monthly Movies That Matter series examining a wide range of issues. The free screenings are followed by a discussion. The series invites consciousness and intellectual inquiry, which is philosophically in tune with Unitarian Universalists beliefs. The UUFDC Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy. 42 in north Ephraim.
