SWIM TEAM: A Documentary Film Chronicling The Rise Of A Competitive Swim Team Of Teens On The Autism Spectrum
Movies That Matter presents SWIM TEAM (2016, 90 min) on Tuesday, July 16, 4:30pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County in Ephraim. SWIM TEAM is an award-winning feature documentary about a New Jersey YMCA-based, community swim team made up of kids on the autism spectrum. The film follows three of team’s star athletes, boys on the cusp of adulthood, when government services become scarce.
SWIM TEAM is a portrait of diverse American families grappling with the problem of “aging out.” Over the course of a year, SWIM TEAM explores the overwhelming struggles they face and the triumphs they achieve as they strive for independence, inclusion and a life that feels winning.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Lara Stolman, SWIM TEAM offers an inspiring look at the power of community to transcend disability and create hope and opportunities for the future.
A representative of Sunshine House Inc. will be present to hold the after movie discussion. Since Sunshine House’s inception in 1971, they have been providing services to Door County’s citizens with special needs and disabilities. Each individual who participates in the services offered at Sunshine house Inc. has a unique program designed to meet each individual’s requirements.
