On Tuesday, September 20 at 4:30 pm, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s Movies That Matters series presents The Kill Team, a documentary film about the Maywand District murders during the War in Afghanistan. The film won first place in the category of Best Documentary Feature at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.

This documentary unveils the moral tensions that tear at soldiers’ psyches through the lens of one highly personal story. Private Adam Winfield was a 21-year-old soldier in Afghanistan when he attempted with the help of his father to alert the military to heinous war crimes his platoon was committing. Tragically, his father’s pleas for help went unheeded. Once Adam’s fellow soldiers got wind of what he’d done, they threatened to silence him — permanently. Forced to choose between his conscience and his own survival, Adam found himself drawn into a moral abyss, faced with a split-second decision that would change his life forever. (2015, 79 minutes)
