Several generations of governmental assimilation policies have attempted to eradicate over 250 languages spoken in North America. As a result “it is conservatively estimated that over 90 percent of First Nations people do not speak their tribal language, and even fewer can read it.” This morning we will be talking about a recently (2021) created indigenous translation of the New Testament. “It is not a word-for-word translation, but rather it is a thought-for-thought translation.”
Dick Smythe is an entomologist retired from the research division of the US Forest Service. Throughout his life he has maintained two dominant interests: first, his fascination with the natural world — our non-human environment and endless source of wonder; second, his abiding interest in religion/theology — a subject of continuing education and challenge.
