Hanne GaultHanne Gault is the featured poet in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s Dickinson Poetry Series on Wednesday, September 9 at 7 pm. Gault moved to Door County in 1997 after spending many summers here. Nominated for a Pushcart Prize, she has published one chapbook.

Gault has been writing poetry for many years. It is a kind of meditation for her, where she can lose herself and forget about other things. “I have a similar relationship to music,” she explains.

Gault is drawn to the quirky side of things: “I think there is a comic and ironic aspect to life. I try to use that, and take it as close to the edge as I can without going over, so as not to offend anyone.”

For Gault, getting published is not a focus. However, she enjoys sharing her poetry and getting feedback from both her poet friends and audience members.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a renowned local or regional poet followed by an open mic, providing an opportunity for others to read their poetry. A reception follows affording an opportunity to meet the poets. The Series is named for Emily Dickinson, a prolific poet and philosophically in tune with Unitarian beliefs.
