Hope United Church of Christ, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC), JUST Door County, Inc., and the Door County Civility Project are proud to host FIT Oshkosh, Inc.’s traveling exhibit, Color-Brave Photo Project: Black and Brown Faces, A New Narrative.

The exhibit, funded in part by the Wisconsin Humanities Council and the Oshkosh Community Foundation, features the portraits and personal stories of People of Color, including African Americans, Latinos, and Asians. According to FIT Oshkosh, Inc.’s Executive Director, Tracey Robertson, “The exhibit humanizes its subjects and explains their motivations for making their home in the community in which they live and work. In many cases, these stories dispel ingrained and deeply held stereotypes. This project is a celebration of people of color, their choices, and their lives.”

Kathleen Toerpe, Executive Director of JUST Door County, Inc. adds, “We can learn so much from the experiences of our neighbors in Oshkosh. We are bringing this exhibit to Door County to spur local conversations here on how to make the peninsula more welcoming and inclusive to the many people of color who call Door County home.”

The Color-Brave Photo Project runs from Friday, August 24 through Sunday, August 26 at Hope United Church of Christ, 141 S. 12th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. Hours are 10:00 am – 4:00 pm August 24 and 25, and 10:00 am – 3:00 pm on August 26. All are invited to a reception and a special evening viewing of the exhibit at Hope UCC on Friday, August 24 at 6:00 pm, followed by a community conversation about the exhibit facilitated by FIT Oshkosh leadership at 7:00 pm. All events are free.

Hope United Church of Christ, The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County, JUST Door County, Inc., and the Door County Civility Project all seek to collaborate to foster a welcoming community for all people who live, work, and visit in Door County through diverse programming, service, education, and community advocacy.
