It feels to me as if too many of us have bought into what our Buddhist friends call the “illusion of separateness.”  It’s this place where we judge one another and thus feel the impossibility of anything ever getting bridged.  The gulf is too wide and the gap too distant, the walls grow higher, and we suddenly forget who we are meant to be to one another.  Mother Teresa summed up the world’s ills most succinctly.  We’ve simply forgotten that we belong to each other.

Bret Bicoy is President & CEO of the Door County Community Foundation.  He is also the current Board Chair of the Wisconsin Conference United Church of Christ and a co-founder of the United Church of Christ Foundation of Wisconsin.  With his wife Cari, they raised 6 children in Door County and are active members of Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay.
