One day before National Poetry Month begins, poets who are Members and Friends of the UU Fellowship of Door County will present a reading of original poems. This year, in conjunction with the Protest! exhibit in the UU Gallery, poets have been asked to explore what it means to them to “bear witness” to the troubling events of our own time. Which events call for them to write poetry? How do they answer that call? Their poems will “speak out” in different ways, perhaps reaching different people. They invite you to respond with your own acts of social engagement.
The poets will include Sharon Auberle, Ethel Davis, Tom Davis, Larry Eriksson, Gerri Friedberg, Jami Hanreddy, Phil Hansotia, Hanne Gault, Estella Lauter, Jack Redell, and Tom Toerpe. They are all published poets, and among them they have twenty books of poems to their credit. They welcome conversation about their work in the “talk-back” after the service and in the coffee hour.
Music: Gerri Friedberg
