Many Unitarian Universalists regard themselves as atheist, coming from the Greek, Atheos, meaning without God. But it’ll depends on your definition of God, and God is a very slippery word.

When Arlo Guthrie, son of renowned folksinger Woody Guthrie, bought the desacralized Anglican Church in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where the song and movie Alice’s Restaurant originated, a local minister asked him what he was going to do with the building, “Create a bring your own god church”, he replied.

With any human endeavor involving passion and commitment, there is a god operating.

Carl Jung, the psychiatrist said: “To this day god is the name which I designate all things which cross my willful path violently or recklessly, all things which upset my subjective views, plans and intentions and change the course of my life for better or worst”.
