On Sunday, October 18, our Third Sunday special collection will benefit Northern Door Children’s Center.
Serving both business owners and employees of our local community, Northern Door Children’s Center (NDCC) is NOT a “daycare”. It is the only high-quality early care and education center within a 30 mile radius which provides a comprehensive educational program for children aged six weeks to five years. In addition, NDCC offers an afterschool program and a school-aged summer day camp experience. It is licensed for 112 children.
In order to make the educational experience affordable for families, NDCC fundraises fully one-quarter of the cost of the $600,000 operating budget of the Center each year. This translates to a 25% discount for every family. NDCC works diligently each year to assure that every four-year old in the Northern Door community is offered the opportunity to participate in the 4K program two mornings per week, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
Approximately 30% of students are recipients of the NDCC scholarships offered through fundraising and an additional 10-20 families take advantage of “Wisconsin Shares”, a state funded program that offers assistance directly to families who meet specific financial guidelines to help pay for childcare. The Children’s Center does not receive any direct state or federal funding.
The first three years are considered the most important and critical time of development in the life a human being. NDCC offers an early education experience to approximately 80% of the children entering Gibraltar Area Schools Kindergarten each year.
All students, regardless of age, are exposed to and eventually taught NDCC’s Five Core Values: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Kind, Be a Learner, and Be Part of the Community. Each Core Value has components that relate to the classroom space, to the playground space, to the shared indoor space, and to how we behave when we are in the larger community or have visitors to our Center.
Located in Sister Bay, NDCC operates year-round, Monday-Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm. Community members are welcome and encouraged to stop by the Center and take a tour.

With the exception of pledge payments clearly marked as such, ALL monies collected during Third Sunday Offerings will be donated to the designated recipient of the month.
