By Karon Winzenz

On Wednesday, July 13, we will meet at the Fellowship at 11:30 am for a brown bag lunch and a discussion of My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem. Valerie, our hostess and discussion leader, will contact members a few days before the meeting to determine attendance. At 1 pm, we will have our postponed session to select our books for the next 12 months. Members are asked to send a short description (2-3 sentences) of two books that you have read to Karon no later than July 9, even if you will be at the meeting. She will compile the list and email it to you on July 10. This will allow all to see what is being proposed and facilitate our selection process.

On Wednesday August 3, starting at 12:30 pm, Karon will host and lead the discussion of The Possibility of Everything by Hope Edelman, a memoir describing her family’s search to heal her three-year-old daughter whose curiously disruptive imaginary friend, Dodo, becomes increasingly dangerous and disruptive. After all else fails, Edelman and her husband take her to Maya healers in Belize, hoping that a shaman might help them. Their experience transforms Edelman from a person who believes only in the visible and the “proven” to someone open to the idea of larger, unseen spiritual forces. Ultimately the journey is about the health of a troubled family and the things that can destroy and heal us all.
