Racial Justice Action Team

The Racial Justice Action Team fosters a welcoming community for People of Color who live, work, and visit in Door County through service, education, and community advocacy activities.

Our specific goals are:

  • To educate the UUFDC members/friends regarding racism, white privilege, and Black Lives Matter (BLM) through a variety of venues.
  • To witness, affirm, and ally with people of color as we implement strategies to address white privilege and racism, and enhance racial justice.
  • To network with the Door County community and state-wide in relation to awareness, education, and support of anti-racism activities.

A sample of our accomplishments includes:

  • Affirmed the UUA Action of Immediate Witness supporting Black Lives Matter;
  • pilot of “We Welcome ALL” initiative (download the We Welcome All brochure here);
  • led congregation and community discussions on the PBS series Race: The Power of an Illusion;
  • held several book & movie discussions re: racism, white privilege, white supremacy, and implicit bias
  • created the Fellowship’s multicultural lending library;
  • created initial bibliography of children’s social justice books and purchase recommendations.

We carry the UU Principles close as we work, specifically guided by the following principles: #1 Inherent worth and dignity of every person; #2 Justice, equality, and compassion in human relations; #6 World community with peace, liberty and justice for all.
