Racial Justice Action Team
Who We Are:
The Racial Justice Action Team allies itself with all those who uphold and foster the inherent worth and dignity of the individual. We seek a welcoming and inclusive community for all, especially for People of Color and other vulnerable people who live, work, and visit in Door County. We do this through service, education, and community advocacy. And we hold ourselves accountable to our faith community and to our neighbors.
Our tasks:
- Witness, affirm, and ally with People of Color and other vulnerable, marginalized or oppressed people in our community.
- Educate the UUFDC members/friends regarding racism, white privilege and white supremacy, and Black Lives Matter (BLM).
- Collaborate with neighboring congregations, organizations, and individuals also committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and anti-racist
community.
Recent and Ongoing Steps in Allyship:
- Affirmed the UUA Action of Immediate Witness supporting Black Lives Matter;
- Created and administering the We Welcome ALL initiative, partnering with local businesses, congregations, and non-profit organizations that have
committed to welcoming all people and treating them with dignity and respect. (download the We Welcome All FAQ here); - Uplifting marginalized and vulnerable voices in our Sunday Services, art exhibits, poetry readings, workshops, and book and film discussions;
- Sponsoring Bystander Intervention training to give the members of our community the tools and confidence to safely and effectively challenge
discrimination; - Educating ourselves and our community on racism, white privilege, white supremacy, and implicit bias;
- Committing to becoming an anti-racist multicultural institution..
We carry the UU Principles close as we work, specifically guided by the following principles: #1 Inherent worth and dignity of every person; #2 Justice, equality, and compassion in human relations; #6 World community with peace, liberty and justice for all.
