Do Not Fear:  The Creation of “Belgians in Heaven

This summer Northern Sky Theater celebrates the 30th anniversary of “Belgians in Heaven”.  This show about “two farmers, an angel, and a talking chicken” is one of the most popular ever created at Northern Sky, earning 10 productions and a huge return audience.  Doc will focus on how researching the show led to a lasting shift in his views about the afterlife. He’ll also offer a brief overview of its prequel “Hell’s Belgians”, premiering this summer alongside the original “Belgians”.

Frederick (aka Doc) Heide is Professor Emeritus at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco.  He has written about meditation, spirituality, and other topics in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Psychophysiology, Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, Journal of Psychotherapy Integration, and elsewhere.  In 2022 he published Tangled in Wonder, a songbook spanning almost four decades of original writing. Doc is best known locally as co-founder and performer with Northern Sky Theater, where he has written or co-written almost two dozen musicals including Belgians in Heaven, Hell’s Belgians, Packer Fans from Outer Space, Guys & Does, and When Pigs Fly!
