A manifestation of white privilege is that there is an expectation that dreams can be realized through working smart and hard. That expectation may not necessarily hold true for those who do not conform to the dominant culture. We will explore how dreams and expectations differ from culture to culture in our society. We will search source materials to help us understand and to construct a dream that is available to all who live in America. Finally, we will explore the history of Unitarian Universalism and how that informs our current efforts to realize racial justice in the world.
Mark Richards recently began his fourth career as a hospice chaplain serving Door and Kewaunee counties. A lifelong New Englander who also spent fifteen years in North Carolina, Mark is enjoying his second year living west of the Appalachians. He is a candidate for ministerial fellowship with the UUA and will accept prayers, positive energy, and/or good wishes. Mark and Christina are enjoying exploring the Door County peninsula and meeting new friends.
