It is the function of the young to question existing norms and values. It is the function of the elders to stand up for values and customs which have proven to be reliable through the centuries. We elders capitulate too easily. It is through the struggle between old and young, left and right, that we attain a fruitful direction.

Jay R. Brickman is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a major in psychology. He holds an MA in Hebrew Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was ordained a rabbi by the Jewish Institute of Religion in NYC. He has held pulpits in Staten Island, NY and Milwaukee. He is now rabbi emeritus of Congregation Sinai. He continues to teach and lead services.
