Redefining Freedom with Bret Bicoy

A life well lived calls you to commit yourself to a few of the institutions that were embedded in the ground before you were born and will be here after you die.  It is accepting the gifts of those who came before us, taking on the responsibility of preserving and improving those institutions, and then passing those institutions on as gifts to the next generation.

And since we never know when one of our seemingly modest acts might help change history, or inspire someone else who will play a key role, we’d do well to savor both the journey of engagement itself and the everyday grace that we can draw on along the way.

Bret Bicoy is President & CEO of the Door County Community Foundation.  He is also the current Board Chair of the Wisconsin Conference United Church of Christ and a co-founder of the United Church of Christ Foundation of Wisconsin.  With his wife Cari, they raised 6 children in Door County and are active members of Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay.
