Rev. Mark Richards
Transforming Principles & Purposes
In 2021, the UUA Board of Directors commissioned a panel to review and update Article II of the UUA Bylaws. Article II defines the purposes of the UUA and lays out the principles by which we gather. We know these as the Seven Principles and most of us have never known Unitarian Universalism without them. Recent movements to edit and amend the seven principles provided the impetus for the Board to charge the Article II Commission. It’s initial draft was published in September and the review process is underway. In this message, we will explore the proposed changes, why they are coming now, and how UUFDC can have an impact on its final form. Along the way we’ll consider the anxiety that occurs during transitions and how we can use that energy to better serve our UU community.
