What does our Unitarian Universalist tradition have to tell us about the tension between the individual and the community? How do we decide how to act and how to be together?

Rev. Mary Gear is serving as the Acting Assistant Minister at First Unitarian Church in Portland, OR, through this month and will begin as the settled minister for the UU Congregation of Olympia, WA, in August. Rev. Mary graduated with her Master of Divinity from Starr King School for the Ministry, has a Masters in Social Work from Walla Walla University and a Bachelors in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin. She has been a UU for almost 30 years, and heard the call to ministry while serving as the Music Director for her home congregation in Salem, OR. Rev. Mary currently lives in Salem, OR, with her partner, John, a black cat named Simon, and a ginger kitty named Lucy.
